After many months of speculation, media reports from late last week indicate that actor Ashton Kutcher and actress Demi Moore have finally proceeded to the next stage of their divorce-related saga, an actual filing of a divorce petition by Kutcher.
Kutcher filed for divorce on December 21 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The couple was married in September 2005 and separated approximately 13 months ago. Their relationship was decidedly high-profile even by Hollywood celebrity standards. Moore is currently 50 years old and Kutcher 34. Their age difference, Moore’s former marriage with actor Bruce Willis, charges of infidelity against Kutcher, Kutcher’s current relationship with actress Mila Kunis and other factors have consistently kept Kutcher-Moore stories in media headlines.
For many months, news accounts indicated that Kutcher was waiting for Moore to initiate divorce proceedings. Over a year ago, Moore did publicly state that she would be filing a divorce petition, but she never did so. Several news sources stated that her failure to do was linked to the couple’s protracted negotiations over money matters, although that has never been confirmed.
Strong focus has centered on whether the couple executed a prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage. Reportedly, Kutcher’s divorce filing makes no mention of any premarital contract.
The couple had no children together. Moore has three daughters, with Willis being the father of those children.
Kutcher is not seeking any spousal support. Comparatively, his earnings have far exceeded Moore’s over the past several years from acting and other business activities.
The divorce filing cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce.
