The divorce between actors Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards ended 4 years ago, but details regarding their divorce and child custody arrangements are still in flux. Their Hollywood marriage included the birth of 2 daughters. Upon the marriage’s end, the couple shared legal custody of the girls, but now that has changed.
The couple has reportedly come to a new agreement that grants Richards full legal custody of daughters Sam and Lola.
Sheen is remarried and has 2 other children with his current wife Brooke Mueller. Unfortunately, Sheen is in the midst of marital strife once again and dealing with serious criminal allegations that have put his marriage and custodial rights on shaky ground.
His alleged violent behavior towards Mueller during a domestic spat that took place in Colorado last December motivated Richards to reevaluate their child custody agreement. Not only that, but Sheen’s history of drug abuse and addiction, along with rumors of an ongoing drug problem, gave Richards even more ammunition to use when requesting the change of custody rights.
According to sources, Sheen did not fight and gave in to her request for full legal custody of the girls.
In a time when more and more men are fighting for their fathers’ rights, this sort of submissive legal action on Sheen’s part might be surprising, even disappointing. As of now, he has not given a public statement in regards to the reason behind his decision.
As mentioned before, however, Sheen is in the middle of a serious legal battle, fighting assault charges, charges of criminal mischief and menacing. He also is still married with no plans for divorce from Mueller yet announced. Perhaps he thinks it is in the best interest for all involved to focus on his current marriage and the legal woes that complicate it.
Sheen’s trial is arranged to take place later this summer. We will keep you posted on the status of this case as it progresses.
