An interesting website called Salary Money that lets people compute and examine their salary in real time from different perspectives specializes in providing some eye-opening details about the money that celebrities — especially sports stars — make.
Take Terrell Owens, the likely future Hall of Fame professional football player known virtually as much for his flamboyance as for his talent on the field. Salary Money estimates that, based on an eight-hour work day, he made $33,333.33 each working day last year, which, broken down further, comes to $4,166.66 per hour.
And yet he can’t pay the $5,000 a month in child support that he was ordered to pay by order of a Georgia court in 2007.
The mother of his young son filed a lawsuit against him in Fulton County Superior Court on June 20 to enforce the order. She wants Owens, who is a resident of Fulton County, held in contempt.
The mother’s attorney says that Owens’ financial advisers have informed the mother that Owens no longer intends to pay the full amount. It is not immediately clear how much Owens did pay for June, the first month he failed to pay the entire $5,000.
“Rather than discussing the situation with her or her lawyers first, he simply cut his child support,” said the mother’s attorney.
The woman says she has no animosity toward Owens and simply wants him “to follow the order to which he agreed.”
